I Used The Crap Out Of My Pickup This Weekend

A common internet complaint is that pickup truck owners, do not use them for their intended purpose. I have actually found that to be true for the most part. Obviously not on Oppo, and not in my direct circle of friends, but my neighbors/colleagues that have pickups...All top shelf trucks that have never seen more than a rough piece of tarmac.

Not me though, RedTed did work this weekend. Saturday I picked up lumber for a raised garden bed, built it, then went a picked up a cubic yard of soil. I carefully drove right into the backyard to dump the dirt too!

From there it was back to the depot, to get compost and a sheet of Masonite for the top of my work bench.

Sunday I had to stop at my parents to feed their dogs. So I threw my now retired winter wheel setup for the M3 in the bed, and snuck them into my parents attic:) I had to move my mom’s corvette to do that, so obviously I had to take it for a spin...gotta let it warm up.

My wife said “should we tell her that were taking it out?” I replied in my best Bobby Boucher voice “what mama don’t know, won’t houite her.”

After that was depot trip #3 to buy all of the wood for the gigantic chicken coop we are building. Somewhere along the way I managed to finish up the power locks/keyless entry too.

I hope everyone had a great weekend, some additional pics below.

oh man, they’re so handy for gardening! For Mother’s Day, I took my mom to home depot and let her get whatever flowers she wanted, was a breeze to put them in my truck... we’ve been having a lot of work done on the house so I had to toss out the rotted wood, etc. and just dumped it in my bed and took it for recycling.

Then Saturday my cousin asked me to go to Costco with her to buy a pool box which wouldn’t fit in her car, so...

Hopefully your chicken project comes out great

If you are a DIYer, having a truck is almost a necessity. Sure you could rent a truck, but if you’re doing that often you’re probably spending more than you would on gas in a truck. And borrowing other people’s trucks all the time is just being a PITA to everyone else.

After I rented the home depot truck for the 4th time, I was like “fuck this noise, I must have one.” It’s not even expensive to rent from Home depot <$40, but it’s a hassle and if the truck is in use, you’re out of luck.

Awesome! I’m currently in the midst of a kitchen remodel and my SHO’s trunk has been my truck bed lol. Maybe some day I’ll wise up and get a truck.

Awesome! A few coworkers have already asked to borrow it, and I don’t even have to say no. I just say “can you drive a manual?”

ohmygosh, you took it off pavement? IN THE GRASS? ohmygosh. But it’s not even 4x4! You could have gotten stuck! ohmygosh. And it’s not even full-sized!

We we’re able to do a lot with my wife’s Forester, but it’s brand new. So I didn’t want to shit it all up.

Because internets, this was highly sarcastic. Not sure if that came across.

haha I’m terribly sarcastic so I had no trouble picking up what you were putting down.

If I’m being honest, I nearly did get it stuck. I had to shoot that gap at the top right of the picture between my house and that pear tree. it’s on a steep angle and I had to go at it side ways. I had to lay down a sheet of plywood and then drive way faster than anyone should around that corner!

At my last job, most of the sales guys were what I shall refer to as upscale Wisconsin rednecks. One of them drove a full-on brodozer’d F-150 crew cab that he used primarily as a very large sedan to put his kids’ booster seats in.

He also had a pistol on some kind of quick release mount under the steering column. First time I rode with him to a client meeting, I saw that and my train of thought was roughly, uhhh, ok, be cool, we’re just going for a ride to a hospital to drop off a network appliance and try to get the IT manager there to hire contractors...

Guess I need a lift and the lowest profile tires I can find for my 22's.

It just seems so inconvenient to not have a truck. Every time you rent one you have to make 2 trips to the store and like you said you are SOL if they are all rented out. I regularly (couple times a month probably) use my truck for things that would be impossible or really inconvenient/impractical to do with a car and I’m so glad I have it.

Eww...that’s my least favorite automotive trend I think. If you’re going to lift a truck at least but some meaty tires underneath it.

I’m not doing either of those things. I want a limited slip or locking diff, but that’s it

I love a clean stock truck more than a lifted one. I’m currently looking for a new (to me) truck and it’s harder than it should be to find an unmolested truck. My current truck has an open diff too and it spins a tire way more than it should, it’s at least 4x4 so I can throw it into that if I need more traction.

It’s a tough search. I eventually had to come to grips with the fact that I would have to pay over anyone’s book value for a clean used truck. I’m not at all sorry I did it though. I’ve only had it two weeks and I’ve already done more than I could do in a year without it.

I fit two bar stools in my Integra, which took up about 90% of it’s capacity. Although to be fair these are slightly bulkier than normal bar stools.
